I have some 1961 and 1962 post baseball cards on super thin paper stock, seemingly even thinner than regular paper. They are cut around a border just like the cereal box versions, and appear vintage and not photocopies or reproductions. Any clue as to what these are?

I have some of the Topps paper proofs discussed in Dave Hornish's blog below. Do not know if Post would have had such proofs. Lazer copies maybe.

Sounds like someone skinned the paper thin glossy top layer from the thicker brown cardboard bottom layer at some point.

Would that constitute evidence of thinning ?

wow, well thanks for the help. Sounds like someone had time on their hands, as I have about 30 of them.

Does anybody have just the cardboard remaining from what was once a complete card? I will have to look, but I think mine are from 1961 only.

No, that would be my head.
I also don't have much evidence left of "trimming" either. |

I've purchased Post baseball cards where the adhesive that held the printed part of the card to the cardboard backing either dried out or was not applied well. I suspect that's what has happened. What did I do? I applied a little bit of Elmers glue and reattached the printed part of the card to the stock. I've seen this four or five times.

There are also some fake proofs out there that are on very thin stock. A friend bought a Mantle a couple years ago that was in a ASA or similar grading companies slab. Under magnification it was clearly a home printer counterfeit.

Someone just told me life magazine had them. These are thin like a magazine paper.

The cards that were inserted into the April 13 1962 issue of Life magazine were made of a cardboard which is thinner than a standard card but much thicker than magazine page paper.
