I acquired these chips and with the help of Andy (Andypcl), put together a checklist of known chips. All the players here, were on that team's roster in 1949. Some were only on that team for one year, so it seems conclusive that they were made and distributed in 1949. Who made them, how they were distributed, and what their purpose was, is a mystery. Between mine, Andys and those in Pauls list from his blog, these are the known chips:

Cubs: Grimm, Cavaretta, Lowery, Edwards, Schmitz, Leonard, Lade, Jeffcoat, Reich, Smalley, Walker, Adkins, Ramazzoti, Dubiel, Mauch, Kush, Rush and Chipman

White Sox: Gettel, Surkont and Hancock (he only played 39 games in 1949, and that was his only appearance in the majors)

Athletics: Fox

Indians: Vernon

Red Sox: DiMaggio

Andy remembers seeing a player from the Yankees, but we know of no others. Does anyone have any other players, or remember seeing any other teams? Would love to know if ones exist for Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Stan Musial or Bob Feller.
