Joe, it's about four decades old now (I don't have mine in front of me to check the exact first run date; I think it was 1980), but The Sport Americana T206 The Monster, by Bill Heitman, is still an excellent resource for collectors of the set, in addition to the publications already listed. The checklist has, obviously, been updated a bit since it was published, but it's still a great reference as far as breaking down the print runs, and back availability for each card. You can find one for about $15-20 on EBay.
