Babe Ruth Auction

Just got through perusing Goldin's special Ruth auction, which they have hyped for weeks now. Can't really speak for the balls, bats, autographs etc. but thought the cards were overall a bit weak with the exception of the W517 Mint example. Perhaps speaks volumes about the paucity of quality cards available at the moment coupled with an ever constant and growing demand. John

Part of the proceeds go to the Babe Ruth Museum, hopefully that will help, it was mentioned on the other side how the Bob Feller Museum went under.

Nice of Goldin to do that.

Too bad you couldn't right your winnings off to charity : )

Since their inception I've always looked at them as a memorabilia geared house that also dabbles in cards. That being said, they have auctioned off some great cards in the past few years.

I think Goldin is more of a memorabilia auction house. They always have cards, but it seems to be more of a minor category. It's with other auction houses that cards is the focus and majority.

The mint 9 is mine along with the Ruth/Ruppert postcard. I sent these in early last month thinking this was going to be a good auction.

All Ruth, plus charity, plus I needed some money for a down payment on a new house. Hope they do well.

Noted a Sinclair contest ball and a Yankee Stafium locker tag in the auction items. Pls correct me if I am wrong, but aren't all the Sinclair balls supposedly ghost signed and the locker tags cannot be attributed to the Yankees at all?

I agree...I was quite disappointed when I saw the selection of cards...mostly strips. When I first heard about this auction I was expecting a type auction running the span of his career...there may be 1 "card" that interests me in the least.

And so many auto'd balls...not impressed.

This question is not specific to this auction at all, but not being a memorabilia person, I have often wondered if all the multiple single-signed Ruth balls one sees in every significant auction over the years are real, and whether the people authenticating them are competent to tell.

Lots of nice Ruth tickets.... Some Rare ones in the Teens that are very hard to find plus some Ruth Hr games

Its a big deal...it just makes it easier to not bid in a suspect auctioneer's auction when there is no material you really want!!!!

I know the Babe Ruth signed many balls through out his life, but with the high dollars a signed Babe ball brings the fakes are more prevalent than fake Rolexs.

Edited to say: I'm joking to each their own, I don't want anyone to think I'm being serious as I usually see a bunch of auctions that people seem to love that I tend to gloss over because its not my cup of tea.
