A sincere thank you, Craig, for taking the time, trouble, and so forth to upload photos of your passion. Not only is "card on boxes" a very worthwhile thread, you have obviously collected some dynamite gems from among the sport cards printed as part of the box packaging. I'm computer-illiterate when it comes to these things, and I tried to have my son help me upload the cover of my forthcoming book on a CD regarding postwar regional / food issues.
Sadly, the image was of such massive bits (over 5 times the limit for this forum); however, on one's computer screen the CD book images display beautifully! You would have noticed a mate of your 1962 JELL-Os---Mickey Mantle. Nuts! Oh well, I tried. I will calm myself by remembering the soothing end of their commercials at the time: "J-E-L-L-O". Thanks again; hope you get more responses. These have been good. I can't understand why my book cover would be that many bits over the limit. --Brian Powell Last edited by brian1961; 01-01-2015 at 08:20 PM. |

Just a memory, Craig, but worthwhile and it speaks volumes of the deep undercurrent desire for regional / food issues. A hockey collector was offering $7000 well over 10 years ago if anyone had a 1950 Royal Pudding box with a free hockey card prize to cut out on the box back---that of legendary Gordie Howe. Compared to the value of Gordie's vaunted Parkhurst rookie at the time, the Royal Pudding Gordie Howe was a king-sized ruby, whereas the Parkie was a nice but cheap citrine.

For those that don't know, I am a Cardinals team set collector. I have over 20 albums full of team sets from 1948 to present.
A couple of weeks ago, on an empty 1988 Topps wax box that I was about to throw away, I noticed a 1988 Topps Todd Worrell on the lid. Well, it wasn't a full card. It was a partial card hidden behind Don Mattingly. So, before throwing it away and after cutting the cards off of the bottom, I cut out the partial Todd Worrell card. It now resides on my pre-1990 miscellaneous Cardinals team set album. Here is a picture, alongside a regular 1988 Topps Todd Worrell. Also, below is a Google image of a full box so you can see what I saw before I cut it out. ![]() ![]() Last edited by frankhardy; 01-01-2015 at 12:50 PM. |

That is true dedication there.
I'd probably do the same and have, but I'd at least need to have it be more than 50% of the original item and show the players face. I'm afraid the arm wouldn't cut it in my collection. |
