Buck Newsom January, 1935 - apparently he thought quite highly of Lou Gehrig

My new favorite autograph:

Cecil Travis - Travis was only 21 and had just finished his first full season in the major leagues when he gave this advice to a young fan. I'm sure that if you asked, Mike Trout would also send you a two-page handwritten letter on playing the outfield.

That is awesome. Reminds you of how great Gehrig was.

Since this forum is not limited only to baseball, I thought I'd share a hockey pickup that I'm especially stoked about!

This is the earliest known professional hockey contract of a Hall-of-Famer ever sold at auction. It is the 1921-22 "rookie" contract of HOFer Herb Gardiner.

But something important was never noted when this item was offered at 2 separate auction houses...the contract is autographed by a second hockey HOFer at the top...Lloyd Turner, who was inducted in the HOF as a "builder" and was coined Calgary's "Mr. Hockey" in the early 20th century.

Picked up this Maris personalized photo from Goldins Auction. The seller had it on Ebay a while ago and I offered $400 for it. (as my name is Randy) He declined and put it in Goldins auction. I won it for a $350 bid so the guy probably only got $280 for it in the end. I am approximately the same age as the kid in the photo so I took an old picture of myself and attached it over his head... LOL

That contract is awesome. I know hockey won't get any love here, but that is really nice

OK, this is not sports related but I was able to meet Artimus Pyle today. for those who don't know, he is the semi-original drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was on the plane when it crashed back in 1977. Anyway he was at the Rock & Roll Expo in Philly. He was signing for $20 so I took over my original Street Survivors album. the guy was just the greatest. He talked to people at length, posed for pics and actually would sign more than once on items. I saw him write a whole story in one guys album. Best $20 I spent!
