1938 was still the Depression, and yet there were people spending money on insert cards. Many folks who were broke but had a box of old cards lying around were probably thrilled to find someone to buy them. That money could have bought a desperately needed week's worth of groceries.
I like the section about how to mount and display the cards. The author recommended using corner mounts, or making slits on pages, to protect them against damage. As it turned out, that wasn't such a good method either. But nobody imagined that the cards might one day be valuable. |
