I'm considering getting a tattoo of a baseball card. I already have been tattooed so I don't need to hear any preaching about the getting a tattoo or not. If you were to get a tattoo of a baseball card which one would it be? I'm considering the T206 Wagner. Haven't decided on the condition of the card - for the Wagner I'm thinking of making it look rough - PSA 3 or less. If the card I pick is more modern then I'd get a mint version. Your thoughts?

Go with your best card you own, if that's the Wagner props to you

Thanks Brent - The best card I own now hopefully won't be the best card I own in the future :-). My favorite card is the 1965 Pete Rose. He's also my favorite player so that's a possibility...

I remember reading an article about a guy who had a few baseball card tattoos; can't recall his name though...

Hey Turner - I've seen this one on the internet before. I like it but I want color.

A t206 portrait would definately be a good choice. I would not go with the wagner though. Too cliche!

Curious Steve -- would you get it the exact same size as the card you choose, or would it be larger?

If he's your favorite player,I think the '65 Rose would be a good choice.

Hey Greg - depends on the card. If it's a standard Topps then probably the same size. If it's T206, because the the amount of detail they could not do, I'd probably enlarge it some.
Hey David - there are multiples of each - which ones did you have in mind? A couple of other choices I'm looking at are the Cobb and the Jackson from Cracker Jack. |

My worry about the '65 Rose is that because it's an actual photo it would be difficult to find a tattoo artist good enough to reproduce it properly. With the cards that aren't actual photos it will be easier for the artist to reproduce closely.

i had in mind the portraits. I especially like the colors in the mathewson. The dark cap matty is also one of my favorite action poses...
If Rose is your favorite, I also always loved his 1973 topps mvp pose. Good luck! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

probably pristine. Not sure how well the damage would come across in a tatoo. I could be wrong though... Maybe see a sketch from the artist first?

This is a cool idea. I think I'd pick a card with amazing lithography like the wagner or a cobb or matty. Me personally I think I'd pick the e95 Cobb.

Both of my arms are already covered but I have plans of fitting the t206 Tinker portrait in a hole on my left arm. He looks kind of like a vampire in that pose
![]() Funny thing is that he'll be next to Nietzche. I cannot think of any connection between the two. So, don't do Tinker unless you want the tattoo pop report to be 2.

just an idea, maybe the tattoo itself doesn't have the shape and outlining of a baseball card...like maybe it is more like a large paint swash with the card in the center. For example the blue sky on the edge of this card, the green grass near the bottom, the dirt...they all continue beyond the borders. No black border, no outline of the card. Just a thought

You want to become a cult hero here, get the Large Ass Herzog tattooed on one side of your arm and the reverse on the other side

Close. I think this would likely be introduced in conjunction with a new tattoo process that yields results as vivid as permanent tats.

I think it would be more interesting to pick a card with a vibrant, detailed background (e.g., N162). If you went the portrait route, I would definitely get it from someone who specializes in realistic portraits. The Cy Young and Walter Johnson tattoos someone posted are not accurate representations of the players. The artist could, if you wanted, reference some real photos of the subject to add in details that the card didn't capture too. Another idea would be the trade card route since the facial details don't need to be spot on and they tend to have more colors (e.g., Tobin lithographs). A new school tattoo artist could produce an awesome version of a Tobin lithograph if you are looking for something that is inspired by the card rather than a copy of it.
Best of luck with whatever you decide and post some pictures when it is complete. p.s. Since we are on the subject of tattoos, I have to post a picture of this one that I just got on Tuesday. |

My only advice would be to choose an artist very carefully. Outside of that, just get what you like. Tattoo collecting and baseball card collecting are very similar in that way.
