Congrats, Gary - had my eye on that one, but my eye and my wallet aren't a good match at the moment.

After seeing the pickups this month I’m almost embarrassed to post this. I picked this “16 Ruth Souvenir bat at a local antique store today. While conducting an on line search I came across a number of such 125 bats but could not find one with the 40 center brand. I’m fairly sure it is worth the $15.00 I paid for it but was hoping that someone could help me date it.

Interesting find, Mike - probably can't go wrong at $15.

Today was Christmas in September for me - the postman brought two 1905-15 gloves, one of which I have been working on all evening and will post pics in the morning - it turned out great . The UPS lady brought my Cano gamer and 1947 Sam Crawford handwritten letter. On the debit side, spent the afternoon working on my 1956 Yankees ball display, chopping up leather and pressing. So far....not so good Will post pics of disaster after I recover.

'Before' pics of gloves, etc., below. I'm really happy with the Cano gamer - I paid too much, but it was exactly what I was looking for: trademark taped handle, lots of pine-tar, no cracks, old-school wood look. I suspect it's actually a 2006 or 2007 bat that he took one or two hacks with in 2008 for Mr. Steiner, but that's cool with me. I have a Cano baseball he hit a double with, to display with it. I'm banking on him being the all-time doubles leader in ten years.

Thanks Mike. I had planned to remove the letter from its frame and re-frame with other Crawford items, but instead will just prop up in the man-cave.

The Cano bat is very dry and has wood separation on the barrel - seems kind of weird for a 6-year old bat, but maybe these days players are too lazy to properly bone their bats (not a euphemism). Makes me believe even more that this one is an older bat that was laying around doing nothing for a few years.

Default Los Angeles Angels PCL pennant

Picked up this LA Angels PCL pennant recently. Its the only one I've seen that has this particular LA logo. Most examples I've seen of this pennant have the interlocking LA logo (you know, the one the Dodgers "borrowed"). I'm guessing early to mid-1950s because of its similarity to the other pennants, but the logo does look similar to the 1942 Angels logo.

Great pickup on the Angels PCL Pennant!

I picked up 3 rare ones myself, all via ebay (which seems to have picked up lately). First time in an eternity that I've seen this Boston Bees Pennant...

Lions and Tigers and Bees - Oh my!

Gary, Congrats...quite a ball....year appears to be 1865...almost looks like 1855...but the June eliminates that since the Union's started July 17th 1855...

How'd you land that?...can you give the who what where?...as balls like that don't grow on trees...looks like an auction piece...

So is it a candidate for restoration or is that out of the question?...Have you seen other Union of Morrisania trophy balls?...nice catch!

Picked up some fantastic baseballs at a garage sale yesterday. A Rawlings baseball in box with advertising for Endicott-Johnson Hi-Kick athletic shoes...also a Goldsmith Red/Blue stitched ball, and a canvas Spalding ball.

Thanks for the likes.
Carlton-I got the ball in the recent Legendary auction. The condition of the ball is what it is and will stay that way. Restoration would be a no-no for a trophy ball. There apparently was a small group of these Union of Morrisania balls found some years back. They remain quite rare, as are all trophy baseballs. I'm happy to have this one.

Beautiful ball, Bob. The 1927 Yankees are standing by with their green ink steel-point pens.
