Loved watching him pilot the 89 Cubs to a division title. RIP Popeye!

If you're interested, see my blog post here on my amazing and unique Zimmer story--I saw his last, in the minors, when he activated himself as player, and he hit it off Jim Palmer (and Earl Weaver told me this is all true).

Got this auto at the "Cubs Caravan" in Indianapolis somewhere in the 1989-1990 time frame. We'll miss you Zim!

A few months ago I knocked out this feature on the gerbil (Said lovingly). In reality, Zim belongs in the Buck O'Neil BB HOF lifers wing.

Sad, sad day for me, as I was a big Zimmer fan ever since he managed the 1988 Cubs.
If you haven't seen my Don Zimmer collection check it out here, probably the world's most complete Zimmer collection. I was in the RF bleachers for about 35-40 games that year, "The Boys of Zimmer". I enjoyed his unconventional style. RIP to a baseball lifer who goes way back. What a great life to spend it all in baseball.

I was in left field for a few of those games. Every play he put on that season worked like a charm. Watching Mitch Williams in the 9th put a few more wrinkles on that magnificent face!
