Nice sale by Probstein, but it was an aberration. All the other recent Tolstoi backs in the that grade (Non-HOF or Black Sox) fall in line with the SGC Murphy no matter the TPG.

Congrats on winning the SGC copy. The PSA sale should boost your VCP average.

Edit to original tag line from Proof to Wow... I prefer SGC to PSA so the "Proof" made it seem like I preferred PSA or this was "proving" something.

For me, I would not look at Probstein sales when making this kind of analysis. I feel all three big TPGs do a decent job. Any given card, seller and holder can have a different ending. There are too many variables.

I should mention that many of the registry related cards do, however, do better in PSA holders because of their registry.

+1...I really don't know why this topic gets brought up again, over and over. I have many PSA cards as well as many SGC cards in my collection. I am speaking primarily on T206s here, PSA graded cards simply sell for more money, especially in higher grades, it's not even close. Blame whatever variables you want, but it is what it is.....

Probstein(for whatever reason), sells cards for much more on average than anyone else in auctions. More power to him and his consigners if they get paid.

FWIW I got paid within 48 hours when I consigned with Probstein. He was very professional all the way thru, providing a spreadsheet before and after the auction showing everything and paying immediately. There are a couple of major auction houses that could learn a lot from him.

Unless it was meant in jest, the title of this thread is a pretty reductive, if not specious, conclusion to draw from those two auctions. Different sellers, with different followings, different cards.

It should be more about actual cards and their eye appeal, and less about what plastic case, what grade, or how much.
