I'm fascinated by the fact that he seems to be getting paid for the off days.

Does that mean that every player who is suspended gets paid for off days?

It would seem so.

I absolutely love that Leslie's woodcut.

Regarding posting O/T stuff here, I generally post such stuff in the Watercooler section, but only because I don't care if only a few people join the discussion, and if the time comes when I REALLY want to post an O/T thing over here, I want to feel okay about doing so. I spit in advance on anyone who complains when I do so

Over in the Watercooler area we end up having some great discussions between only 3-4 people, whereas if we posted over here I'm sure there would be 5-10X as many posts. It's kind of a conundrum, but in the end it really doesn't matter much.

I'm so excited about the greatest pick-up I have ever made in my life, that you'd have to come to my house and beat my dog if you wanted to upset me.

I "discovered" the watercooler section just a couple minutes ago, and while I know know that I should have posted this thread over there, I'm confident that it would have been far less entertaining.

Believe me, I can't wait to post. Everyone who knows me, knows that I can't keep my mouth shut - I will post as soon as I feel it's totally absolutely safe to.

I'm with you Doug, this is crazy. I've never heard of the 183 day season before.
Has the season always been defined this way?

I don't want to upset anyone, so...

I understand the logic, and it also means that the players are in spring training for "free" and if they make the playoffs, it's also for "free", plus the post season bonuses, of course, but no guaranteed money.

Ok, but he's not going to spring training, so I don't understand why he should get paid for it. If in fact, those are the days for which he's getting paid.

No, my understanding is that a baseball season is defined as 183 days. I assume starting at opening day.

That would mean that spring training doesn't count, and the post season doesn't count.

It's like if you make $700 per week, and only work 5 days, but you get a hundred dollars for each day of the week, not $140 for each work day. So if you call in sick for a day, you still get $600 for the week.
