Being a lifelong Phillies fan, I have always been fascinated by Ed Delahanty. Here is a heads up for those of you not familiar with with Jerrold Casway's excellent book on Ed Delahanty. I have no affiliation with the book or the author, other than saying it was awesome read dealing Delahanty's with life and personality beyond the fall to his death.
http://www.amazon.com/Ed-Delahanty-E...s=ed+delahanty In addition to Delahanty, Sam Thompson and Billy Hamilton all batting above .400 in 1894, reserve outfielder Tuck Turner also batted .418 that year. That was good enough only for second in the league, though, behind Hugh Duffy's MLB record .440. So many awesome mustaches in that Phillies team photo from 1894. Amazing that just 15 years later, John Titus was the rebel for his mustache. ![]() Last edited by Bored5000; 11-19-2013 at 09:10 AM. |
