Very interesting - I love this kind of stuff.
There are some Overland Candy wrappers on Ebay now that prove your claim. There is a Hank Greenberg one that states "NOW IN THE ARMY" - he joined the Army in 1942. There is also a Harland Clift one that says he is currently 30 years old. He was born in August of 1912. So these 2 were issued in 1942 at the earliest, maybe even 1943. - Dave
