Yesterday I did some searching for info on Newhouser vs. Feller games, and although they faced off several times, I think I may have found a short, very well-written article on the meeting. I'll post the article, with link, here, and if any of you have some cool Bob Feller or Hal Newhouser cards to show off, now is the time, my brothers....

^^^ Nice! Issued just two years after this classic matchup. Considering how great he was, I think Feller's cards are undervalued (and perhaps even Newhouser as well).

Kind of odd that Newhouser had no Bowman cards, nor any Topps before 1953. Maybe he didn't want to sign for peanuts - or was there another reason?
Bob Feller was a very down-to-earth guy, for a sports star. My old man was a big fan of Bob because they had both been farmboys and teenaged pitchers in the '30's. In the 1980's, Feller was in the habit of driving from his home in NE Ohio to Cooperstown on a regular basis, and my father always remembered having the great pitcher stop in his small tobacco shop off the NY Thruway once to buy a paper. He raved about their brief conversation for years afterward - I think it was one of the highlights of his life. |

My parents are from Northeast Ohio, and my dad worked for Caterpillar in Illinois after he was transferred there. When Cat made trading cards of their various tractors, and dad found out Bob Feller owned a Caterpillar, he was in ecstacy. He bought me the Cat card set for Christmas. I think it is safe to say that Bob Feller is to Cleveland what Stan Musial was to St. Louis.

Here you go...
Scored scorecard from the April 26, 1947 game where Feller threw a complete game 3 hit shutout for the win versus Newhouser (who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings on 8 hits). http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1...260CLE1947.htm Doug |

Great stuff, guys, thanks for the contributions. It's cool to see each players card within the same set, and, Doug, that is pretty much the perfect item for this thread!
