Monster # 511
Hey, Frank--
I've been meaning to join for a long time-- I'm up to 511/518, needing: Southern Leaguers: Foster, Manion, Thornton, and Viola. Short Prints: Elberfield, Washington, portrait, Lundgren, Chicago, and Frank Smith, Chicago and Boston. Anyone wanting to trade or sell please email me. I prefer ungraded cards in the Fair-Good range, but am fine with solid Poors or graded cards as well. Thanks. Doug |

Down to 3 remaining..
..and raw ones at that. That is what I still have in possession, not to go Still have a Tenney, Joss (Port) and Kleinow (Right) in SOV150. So, I think I drop off the list
As previously noted when I first consigned with him, my entire collection (522 - minus the big 4, + two dupes) is now in Goodwin's current auction. Lot #'s 355 to 933. Three 3's, rest graded 4-6, assortment of backs. |

Brendan,
No problem, I've got you down for 812. Ed, The Monster Number is an inclusive enterprise. We do not discriminate. I will however pull your threesome from the list if you are suffering from depression and anxiety. A medical note is not required.

My Summit - 518
What began with a Matty ends with a Cobb after 7 years and 7 days.
Thanks to RGold for making the last card possible with probably the best Sweet Cap back in my collection. The image is clean and if you focus on Cobb's nose, you don't even see the two little white spots. Justifiably a high end 30 IMO. No fanfare please. The thread will continue and upgrading will as well on my part. For those behind me on the mountain, the view is good up here and well worth the effort. Thanks again to all who have helped since I almost fell off the wagon at 489, when this thread started.

sadly
my monster number is now 0 :-( My Matty portrait was my last one. I succumed to the monsters wrath around 300 and change. Although I'm a 19th century guy it seemed like a good set for me to chase as it had all the elements I look for in my earlier sets - and I figured with my accumulation of tobacco as art - I should have what I consider to be the quintessential 20th century tobacco set in my story. The color and variety is astounding - lots of things that make it special. That being said - rising prices and the fact that it became like buying a commodity after a while and that I couldn't always be as descriminating as I might want to be led me to abandon the hunt. I preferred graded - especially when buying online and had to confront all the grading issues - should/could I get all the S/l players on my budget in only 40/50's etc., this pattee LOOKS so much nicer than my 60 and so on. One reason I abandoned ship was the money- I'm no whale - comfortable but no endless stream of cash and there are some expensive cards in the set. The shipping, the grading, the HOF's. Then there was the time involved. Cataloging, researching, sharing information, looking for cards. That is much of the fun of it for me even now - but nearly 20 years into the hobby and a hint away from 60 - the MONSTER just became too much - and stopped being as much fun. I'm content to not be able to get the cards I need in my 19th century sets. I wish only the best to you guys. Love the set - enjoy the chase!

Just hit 420 this morning. 100 more to go! All SGC50 or better.
I have been putting this set together card by card (no lots) for a little over 7 years. I originally set forward to put this set together in 10 years and I think I am still on schedule. The final 100, as I plan on getting to 520 (already have an O'Hara, St.L in SGC50). Maybe add a Magie, but not a Plank, Doyle or Wagner unless I hit the lottery. Phil |

Frank, I am new to the Monster List and relatively new to the board. I am now up to 44 cards. I would love to be added to the list.
Also, I have a new display cabinet (which oddly cost more than all the cards combined) of which I am quite proud. |
