Hi all,
What do you do with your completed or near completed sets. Do you sell them and start something new or keep them and start something new. |

Of the 2 vintage sets I've completed...1 is currently up for auction...the other I am keeping...for now!!!!
I have a short attention span...and a lot of money tied up in my set...so It'll most likely be sold someday to pursue other things. |

Always a temptation to sell them off, esp. if there is a good profit to be had.

I would venture to guess that no one starts a set with eventually selling it in mind, though decades are a long time to keep something and not get bored with it (insert wife joke here).
Art collectors are often grooming and reshaping their collections to keep them fresh and interesting. I look at cards the same way. I think a lot of collectors would agree that the only thing I will never sell is stuff from their childhood and/or of sentimental value. The great majority of my sets (sets make up 90% of my collection) are for sale for the right price, as building them is a lot more fun than owning them once their done, IMO.

The little dog is Auggie and the father is Doggie Daddy. I suppose my avatar is misleading since it depicts both characters.

Well if I ever actually completed a set, I would break the set apart and sell but would keep a majority, if not all, of the HOfers for my collection.

I recently completed the Diamond Stars set in PSA 4/5. If a great offer came by I would sell but I will keep them for now.

I've "completed" the T206 set, 522 cards, but I keep finding ways to add to it. I've also cmpleted the 1965 Topps, but I like it too much to sell it just yet.
I guess it depends on whether you want to collect somathing else and need the cash to enable you to do so. |

I've completed several sets, but never sold one. I just file them away and move on to something else. Someday I will sell them or give them to my kids.

I have no plans to sell any of the sets, I have built. I'm putting them together because I want them and for me at least, it's too much work to put them together just to turn around and sell them. That might change if someone came along & made me an incredible offer on one. Bottom line, I'm an accumulator.

There was a painter and I can't remember his name who used to finish a painting and then destroy it. Very few of his works are still available.
I think I follow this as a completed set is a work of art that takes time and resources but once its finished I am done and want to move on to the next project. Although my 38 Goudey (PSA 5-7, with Dimaggio as 2 and 3 respectively) was a bit hard to let go, but REA did me a nice profit which took the sting out. |

My style is to keep the sets....reminds me of the chase & the how & when I acquired the various key cards. But that is just my style

When I collect a set, I don't expect to sell it. I suppose it'll happen someday though. In the meantime, I just like having a "complete" set.
Recently: 73 topps, 72 topps, 52 bowman, 33 goudey (close), t206 ( close & upgrading, molding ). |
