Almost forgot, Leon's brown-back-Buck reminded me...yesterday I received the entire raw 1911 OBAK set from Lew Lipset's auction.

I was hoping to keep the Weaver and dispose of the rest, but it looks like while I'll still be doing that, end the end i will have overpaid for the Weaver...and will be happy to have it.

Probably the one that stands out the most is paying $900 for a PSA2 t206 Cobb green portrait in 2003 because it was the last card I needed for my set. Now it is worth more than that, and it is a real nice 2, could probably get a 2.5 under the new system, but back then it was not a $900 card. More like $650-700, but I was too anxious to finish the set and that was the only reasonable one I could find for sale that day. All the others were too low grade, too high or they were Ebay auctions that weren't ending for 5-7 days. Instead of waiting, I paid the extra and got it shipped next day(seller threw that in)

I just could not resist the over-sized borders, centering and color/focus on this card. Could not be happier and one of my overall favorites.

Nelson That is by far my favorite "Plank", and from Lionels collection too! What ever you paid, It would be a bargain at twice the price. Curious...any paper loss on the back? Dave.

Default Had to have 'em

I'm budget conscience when it comes to my collections... in many cases I sell (or flip) in order to support the habit. I picked up the Rossman double name on eBay at a pretty hefty sum (for me), but what an oversized beauty it was. I haven't seen a comparable one come to market since then. I saw the next Rossman in an H&S lot, but again had to have it. Unlike most two namers, this one showed ALL of both names.

After that I tried hunting down the Rossman-Thomas two name when I realized that there was ANOTHER Rossman-McBride. Again, I had to have it. Definitely "overpaid" (or overtraded in this case), but definitely happy to have it.

Still haven't found that Rossman-Thomas. Have some good miscut tradebait available. Or any T206 Rossman miscut will do.

Adam, that Connery and Perez are fantastic. Apparently there is going to be a French film made about Perez.

Chris, I don't have a card to post right now, but I'm pretty sure that after the REA auction is over I'll have one to show you.

This E222 Hooker card is the most expensive card I have ever bought. I won it in a Mastro Auction back in 2006, before I retired - with the recent revelations re the Mastro Auctions, I wonder if I was a victim of shill bidding. Although I don't know if I would recover my cost if I were to sell this card today, I remain happy that I bought it, as it is the highest graded E222 and the only Hooker card in the combined PSA & SGC pop reports. And, being a native and life-long Virginian, I just can't resist rare cards of Virginia League players!

Default E222s

Jim - Thanks for your kind comment and for showing your SGC-graded Hooker card. My eyes are apparently deteriorating as rapidly as my memory, because I checked the PSA & SGC pop reports just before I did my post, and I didn't see your Hooker card (BTW, very nice card - I really like the color of it!).

Brent - Your comment is PRICELESS!

Default overpaid a few weeks ago.. but now? next week?

After bit of waiting and a few attempts to find one on the board, I finally picked one of these up. I paid about $200-$300 more than I'd have wanted to.. but based on prices post the "42" release, I feel like I did OK. Where's the Beckett "up" arrow when you need it! (don't really think this bubble can last though). Regardless of "value", I am happy to finally have a clean looking copy.

Overpaid for this, but since Sullivans are the only cards I collect, I have to overpay sometimes since it's not like I can just move on to another player's card

Probably overpaid a bit for these at the time. Over budget for sure as I hadn't planned on the Cobb.

Most of my better cards were probably a bit over the usual price, but considering how many were bought in the early 80's I figure I did ok.

I was ready to post until I saw the "and happy" part

I paid top prices for these but did I overpay? Hard to say. I do know that they're gonna have to pry them from my cold, dead fingers [or make me a hell of an offer]:

Victor "Young" Perez autographed PC. He was a flyweight champ of Tunisian descent who lived in France. Come WWII, as a Jew he was betrayed to the Nazis and sent to the Auschwitz death camp in Poland where he was forced to fight gladiatorial contests for the amusement of the guards. If he won, he was fed. If he lost, he would be executed. He never lost. He was finally murdered during a death march near the end of the war when he shared some bread with a fellow prisoner in defiance of a guard's orders. Perez's cards--there are a few--are sought after because of his story.

I bought a terribly overpriced near set to get this card: 1968 Atlantic Oil prize-winner Claude Osteen. I've never seen another of the prize-winners from the issue offered for sale in many years of working the set.

Great cards so far.

To clarify, I mean overpaid at the time but looking back you are happy you went for it vs not picking it up.
