What do yall think? I bought this from a local dealer before I joined here. It looked o.k. compared to others that I found. How did I do?

I'm by no means an expert on Baker, but just from the appearance of the scan it looks almost like a stamp. Not saying it is, but it has that look to it.

Here is my Baker for comparison...

I wouldn't buy this one with Shelly's money.

It definitely is not stamped as you can see the overlaps in the ink, however I do not think it is authentic either. Stamped signatures will have more of a "squished out" ink look from when it is pressed down. This one doesn't have any flow to it like an authentic example should.

Thanks!
It was one of those "too good to be true" deals. I'm learning. |

A Baker signed plak is a highly desirable item.
It will probably never be for sale at a too good to be true price. Please, think before you buy. Purchases like this are enablers. They keep the forgers in business.

That was scary. I just sold a Baker autograph on ebay that looked nothing like this one.
What's even more disturbing is the Baker image on the postcard - think it might be Jack Barry? <=== if you don't get it, I understand.

I noticed many of the examples are signatures cut from checks. Was this done by the family or by a dealer?

My understanding (maybe just lore) is that his wife would honor collector's requests after his passing by cutting a signature off of a check.

I believe that is the correct story.

His wife cut up the checks. I received a number of Baker cuts from her in the mid-sixties. (I loved his "old-fashioned" looking handwriting.)

I agree with David, I like the neat penmanship. Here is a scan of a photocopy of my 3x5 bought from Bill Corcoran back in 1997. Best I can do, can't scan the original as it is framed up. I dug it out of an old file of receipts, found a few from Richard Simon in there!
