As some may know, I mostly collect T206's PSA 5/SGC 60 and lower. I collect in these grades mainly because i'm a front/back set collector and many harder to find combo's only come in a lower grade. I don't follow much of the higher graded cards for this reason but I can say that on some lower grade rare back cards, if PSA has 5 cards total and SGC has only 1 and that 1 card gets listed, the price will end at a much higher level than the PSA card in the same grade. Top population cards do sell for much more. What i'm getting at is regardless who graded the card, the total population for that grade and how many are higher can be a factor on price. Grade crossovers are not guaranteed so usually lowest quantity with highest grade pop wins. So unexplained price differences between PSA and SGC could just be related to populations. I do agree though that mid/high 6 thru 8 grades have come down a bit in price. Not as much for the 8's but I think thats mostly because current owners would rather hold on to the card and wait for their asking price before taking a loss.
Kevin, I wouldn't put too much thought into why the prices are coming down a bit for the grades you collect. If there was a large find of thousands of high grade T206 cards found, then i'd worry but for now i'd take advantage of the situation.

I don't really pay much attention to what high grade cards sell for. I love to look at them, but I don't collect them and don't follow the prices of ones that sell.
I stay in the VG to VG-EX range for many reasons- more affordable, you get more for your money, they are very presentable but still have enough "age" to look their age, and I can't see spending hundreds of dollars more on a card because it's a couple of grades higher. Just my take, but please you guys- stay focused on those high grade cards ![]() ![]() ![]() Sincerely, Clayton |
