I have an Ed Willett T206 card that I have had for years. It was graded a 5. I always thought it was under graded, but didn't care since I was holding on to it. Now, though, I was thinking of putting it up for sale. A couple of months ago I sent it in for a re-grade, but it came back as a 5. I figured if I couldn't get better than 5 prices I will hold on to it.
The problem is that I can't figure out why it hasn't graded higher. Then I run across PSA 7 T206 cards that look to be comparable to my card and can't figure it out. I thought that there could be a wrinkle or something that I am missing, but have not found it with high res scans or 10x magnifiers. Is there anyway that I can send it in for a review and be told why it isn't getting higher, or would it be better for me to try with SGC? I have high resolution photos on photobucket.com/bn2cardz or I can send it on. The card: ![]() ![]() |

to me it's all in the corners of your card-they are definitely not psa 7 corners-i think they actually got the grade right this time-sorry

My guess is the chip on the lower right corner keeps it from getting a higher technical grade. Regardless, it will probably sell for a small premium due to the outstanding eye-appeal and strong centering. Gorgeous card!

you paid twice and now want to pay a third time. you should have left it ungraded and saved 2 and now maybe 3 submission fees?

I got a Cicotte, with even sharper corners, but has literally the identical chip. Got graded a 5. Chips take away from the overall grade A LOT!

Yep, a small chip knocks it way down. Both of these have tiny chips on a lower corner and only average centering. And they didn't even get a 5.

I believe the chip on the left boarder of my E94 Young knocked it down 3 full grades.

...And E94 is a set where chipping is the norm...

I am surprised that it didn't bump to 5.5 (maybe a 6 on a good day) which I resubmitted after they introduced the half grades. |

I know there are people against grading, but my question wasn't asking if I should have had it graded. The others had helpful things to say and show. It isn't helpful to tell me to change my collecting preference.

Beckett used to do this (and still does on newer cards I think) -- on the flip they would post the grade for the four subgrades (surface, corners, centering, and edges). That was somewhat helpful as they sort of showed how they came up with the grade.

If you attend a local show in your area where the TPG in question is present, I am sure that they will discuss the grade with you without charging you again for a regrade. At least, I'm pretty sure that BGS and SGC will, not sure about PSA.

I sent a card that was in a PSA 6 holder for review. Paid $100 in fees plus shipping back and forth. I received a post it note on the holder that said "Corners". Thanks for the explanation and the professional response. I would think for $100 in fees, there might be a little better explanation...

Good post Andy. Not only is it not helpful for him to tell you to change your collecting preference, but who in the hell is he to tell you what to do with your money!

There is a large chunk missing of the surface on the bottom right corner. That's the chipping people are talking about. T206s are gentle on the eyes as a result, because the cardboard stock is white, but that is still a lot of the original "white border" missing from your white bordered tobacco card. There is no way this should be higher than a 5.

So should I consider my card graded correct and consider cards such as this way over graded? It seems that if this card could get a 6, mine should have at least been a 5.5.

On the Dunn, that appears to be chipping from a factory cut as opposed to wear which DOES NOT effect a grade in the same manner. And as i have stated countless times eye appeal and grade are NOT the same thing.
