Dating a Baseball

I found a baseball signed by a minor player from the 40's & 50's. His name is George "Seabiscuit" Seamon, and he played here in Baton Rouge and around the south.

There is no markings on the ball other than his name.

Is there anyway to date the ball by looking at the stitches?

I actually knew the man about 15 years ago. I had heard he played and coached. I cannot find any info on him coaching.
