I first started ordering from Card Collectors' Co. in 1966. As I remember, at that time you could get Willie Mays, Sandy Koufax, etc. for the same price as common player cards, if they had them in stock. Eventually they started charging a bit more for the star cards, as in the pricelist shown above. These weren't really "very rare" cards, just harder for them to keep in stock because of the higher demand. I remember that I ordered the entire 1966 Topps 7th Series run from them, since these "high numbers" never appeared in my local grocery stores. I still have those cards, as well as a 1955 Topps Mays that I think I bought for about $1.00 -- actually a fair amount of money for a nine year old kid making $5.00 a week mowing lawns.
