I just returned from a trip to Hyde Park, NY. where I visited the Franklin Roosevelt home and library. It was easy to visualize FDR as a youngster sitting at his desk working on his stamp collection but it caused me to wonder if he ever collected or mentioned baseball cards? I recall the story that when FDR's Potmaster proposed a stamp honoring the centennial of baseball in 1939 that eventhough it was opposed by a poll of stamp collectors President Roosevelt over-ruled them and it was issued. Since he was a true baseball fan as an adult I just wonder if he ever mentioned collecting baseball cards as a child? - do we know if any other President ever mentioned collecting baseball cards ? |
