t206 plates?

i've been collecting t206 cards for about 3 years, i hear about broken plates, uncut sheets, ect... are the cards lithiographs, has anyone ever seen the plates? i been noticing cards or photos where the artist got the image, but to have a plate would be very rare and valuable. just curious, i love that era and have been collecting photos longer than the cards. any thoughts? thanks
