Has anyone ever heard of the Mocking Bird Smoking Tobacco Co.? My wife discovered, in reading a bio of William Styron, that his grandfather, Alpheus, along with a partner, ran this North Carolina company around 1890. They sold bags of loose tobacco for 5 cents each, and had about 100 employees, until driven out of business by Buck Duke and the American Tobacco Company. |
