My memory could be failing me, but wasn't there a 1911 issue of Sporting News recently found that had an article about Wagner not signing on with the American Tobacco Co. for the so-called T206 set because he did not want to encourage kids to buy packs of cigarettes? He even gave the guy who came to get him to sign on $10, which was his kickback for every major leaguer signed up, so that he would not personally be affected by Honus' decision. I thought this issue was put to rest regarding the T206. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? I would agree with Robe Lifson regarding the T216, Wagner probably was unaware of it way up in Pittsburg. |
