Default Hunt's Auction Results

Posted By: tbob

I was a little surprised at some of the winning bids. Contrary to what a few might believe, caramel cards continue to be red hot. A lot of the lots sold for the projected values but caramel cards went for twice, sometimes three times projected values. The E94 Wagner in Vg went for $2000 and the E94 Young in Vg-VgEx went for $2200. I think Tim S. and I won the E94 lot at $2600 (that was our max) but I got blown out on the T207 Red Cycle Lowdermilk in G/Vg (first red Cycle back I have ever seen).
I was hoping that so little mention on the board of the Hunt's Auction and so much about Mastro might mean not much action but caramel cards continue to soar. I think what is happening is that a lot of tobacco cards are getting "flipped" by winning bidders but caramel cards are going directly in to collections and therefore they are really drying up. You can still find Dockmans, E93s, E95s and E96s but the rest of the vintage 1909-1915 caramels are becoming impossible to find, especially in nice condition....
