1994 Topps Roberto Hernandez

Since busting packs in '94, this is the first time I noticed this odd emblem on Hernandez' cap - I assume it is a C and an A for Chicago and American, but beyond that I am stumped. I even checked at Creamer's Sports Logos but they don't seem to have it.

Anyone have any idea what its purpose and meaning may have been?
