I, too, have seen many of the big Musials and Spahnies over the years, and just figured they didn't get the crowds they were anticipating and were left with a lot of them, or some such. To me, the difference between those and the Mantles, and the Ted Williams smaller pin, for example, is that you could actually make some money reproing them, but the Musial and Spahn not so much. Just seems like if you're going to repro something, why large, expensive-to-make pins for which there is almost no demand? Doesn't make sense to me. Could they just have been made by different manufacturers for different purposes, perhaps, with the white back the "real one" from the game day and all the others sold outside for the rest of the season, or in stores?
