Is there a T206 Shag Shaughnessy collector who has "cornered the market?"
Years ago, either on this board or a predecessor (Full-Count?), there was a theory/rumor that a single collector had cornered the market on Shag T206s and was in possession of more then three-quarters of all Shag cards known to exist.
1. Was there ever proven or confirmed?
2. If so, was that collector identified?
3. If true, do they still have that collection?
I'm not looking to make trouble or call them out, but if accurate, and they still have a majority of Shag cards, I would appreciate knowing if they have any with Howe McCormick's stamp on the back. Of all the Southern League cards in the T206 set, the Shag is the only one that hasn't been seen with Howe's stamp on the back.
In rebuilding the set, there are only three Southern Leaguers I don't have, and I've seen and have scans of the other two (Bastian and Reagan). I've spoken to several collectors who have quite impressive Southern League collections, and none of them own or have even seen a Shag with Howe's stamp.
So I'm just just curious if Shag is the Southern League equivalent to Moose McCormick. You'd think with more than 1,500 cards in his possession at one time, he would have had a Shag, or a Moose. Thanks for any insights.
