I worked for USPS for 20 years and unless someone told me I had to find my own place. If I saw them leave it there I usually thought I could leave it there too.
Leaving a note on the side of the garage door is probably a good idea, but I guess it would need to be up awhile. I've noticed that for some reason (maybe because it's the busier holiday season) we have several UPS drivers and several FED-EX drivers working our neighborhood in a given week (we used to have 2 that just worked different times of the day). This never used to happen. It's totally illogical to leave packages where they have sometimes been left recently, and today my wife told me that others in the neighborhood are having the same thing happening to them!
