As I've already said, that is an early one. It would have a tax stamp if it was issued from 1864-1866. It doesn't have the line or lines framing the image that 1865-1869 cdvs usually have. Could it be pre-1864? Probably not, but it's not impossible. Is the mount thin? Could the once square corners have been rounded by time? What is the history of the Canton NY team?
After doing a search on Protoball, I found a mention of a St Lawrence team from Canton NY. St Lawrence University is in Canton. The refererence is from 1867.
