I generally don’t care about condition but will not buy moldy cards unless they are graded (figure that keeps all the grossness contained) and will not buy cards that were maliciously defaced. For example, I have a Venezuelan Topps card that someone wrote “retirado” on when the player retired. I prefer it to the clean copy I had. I will not, however, buy a Yankees card where some kid crossed out the Yankees symbol and drew a Red Sox symbol. I like cards that were loved by their prior owners, even if that led to a little extra wear.
