Joining the party late here, and I'll admit that I'm not a GU bat aficionado.
But if you take the image of the knob of Gehrig bat from the initial post, turn it into a black and white example, and simply rotate it...as you would/could if the bat was in your hands...it looks REALLY similar to the one in Gehrig's hands (above).
