I finished the '65 set last year and enjoyed putting it together - it's a beautiful set. Like was mentioned above, it's got the stars of the 50's - Mantle, Mays, Koufax, Berra, Ford, Banks, Aaron and Clemente plus RCs of Carlton, Morgan, Hunter, Perez, Niekro (2nd RC) and a third year Rose.
As a second option, I always liked (but never put together) the '62 set as it depicts one of the greatest teams in history - the '61 Yankees. It's got great WS cards, Babe Ruth cards, the HR Leaders with Maris and Mantle and one of my favorite cards, the Managers Dream with Mick and Willie (and Hank in the background).
I'm working on the '64 set now and to tell you the truth, I've sort of run out of steam on it. Just can't seem to get excited about the '64s.
You can't go wrong with either the '62 or '65 sets IMO.
