Most ball clubs had newsletters that they printed up during the year to keep fans up to date about the team, minor leagues and upcoming games. There was "Giants Jottings," "White Sox Yarns," "Chicago Cubs News," Line Drives from the Dodgers," "Yank," even the Browns had "Browns Express."
I'm a big fan of the 1935-1941 Cincinnati Reds and pick up "News of the Reds" whenever I can find them cheap. They are a goldmine for minor league news and contemporary rundowns of all the teams in the league. Does anyone else collect these, and would you be interesting in trading scans of them? I'd eventually like to collect scans of the 1937-1945 editions for reference. Here's a 1939 and 1944 edition: IMG_0334.jpg |
