There is an old thread on CU, Scott might remember it. Guy said he had thicker and whiter game cards. Posted some scans of different colors and tried to show thickness scans but they were inconclusive. I have the two boxed sets and an insert set. I am pretty sure there were color differences from the get go.
I know nothing about how graders do anything they do. I think it you Google " Topps 1968 game cards thin" you can find it
