I see some of the confusion on the dates in this issue looking through my guides.
The original World Tobacco card index published in 1956 puts these in the 1914-16 time frame. Later catalogues put out by the London Cigarette Card Company lists a c. 1912 date on these, which is simply a ball park figure. So yeah, a 1914 release date seems much more likely to me. Looks like a pretty big oversight, as every one I see graded has a 1912 date on them.
