It's time to flip this discussion to the other side. We talk about in another thread of T206 players who are omissions. Now it's time to look at the mistakes.
Rube Marquard - Lowest ERA+ of any Hall pitcher, bad WHIP, high ERA for his time, the metrics aren't there. Another shining example of Frankie Frisch. Deacon Philippe, Ed Reulbach, even Nap Rucker would've been a better choice. Jack Chesbro - Now, is he as bad as Marquard or Red Ruffing? No, but he could've done more in only 11 years. Chief Bender - He does have an argument against him and is similar to Chesbro in some cases. Joe Tinker - .262 average, .308 on-base percentage. 96 OPS+, really a colossal mistake. Can't decide Johnny Evers - Seen by many as a mistake. He wasn't so great with the bat, but he has a better case than Tinker does. Vic Willis - WAR and JAWS like him. ERA+ and WHIP tell me he could've been better. I suppose he wasn't a bad choice, but he is a lower tier selection. |
