Sharpies don't fade if the signatures aren't kept in the light. I have cards that were signed 30 years ago that look the same today as the day they were signed. I prefer sharpie on anything I'm getting done. I get the nostalgia aspect of using ballpoint on older cards, but I can't see using a ballpoint today when a better pen exists. The only exception I'd make would be if I had an older set where the majority were already in ballpoint, I'd use ballpoint to try to keep as much consistency as possible.
