My grandfather had a zillion sayings, most of which I didn't understand when I heard them as a kid. I recalled the words and thought I understood them...
One comes to mind, "Half of doing any job is having the right tools." Milkit, you need a copy of The Sports Collectors Bible. Old little books by Bert Sugar. I suggest a 3rd or 4th edition. Look on eBay or ABE Books. These books are from the late 70s. He lists cards the old, original way, by teams, alphabetically. It makes so much more sense than what Beckett saddled us with. E120 Aldridge, Alexander, Barber, Callaghan, Cheeeves, Flack, Grimes, Hartnett, Hollocher, P. Jones, Kellsher, Krug, H. Miller, O'Farrell, Statz E121 80 series Alexander (2), Deal (2), Evers (2), Hollacher, Killefer (2), Terry, Tyler, Vaughn (2) E121 120 series Alexander, Barber, Flack, Hollocher, Killefer (2), Martin, Terry E122 Alexander, Deal, Evers, Hollacher, Killefer, Tyler, Vaughn Bert's books have occasional errors and omissions. And the latter editions have fewer of these while covering more material. They are quite affordable, and informative. One of Bert's old books would be a valuable tool for a vintage card collector. |
