1911 Foldout with Wagner, Chance ***ENDS TONIGHT 2/26***
This is a really neat piece. It's not really what I collect, but I thought someone on the board would appreciate it. This is the centerfold page of an original publication ca. 1911. I don't know what publication. It measures roughly 15.5" x 22" and is covered in baseball material back and front. The front has several great photos with many action shots, including two Wagner's and a Chance, and I'm almost positive that John McGraw is in the center bottom photo.
The back has some crowd shots and a very cool article that starts off blaming the sluggish 1910 attendance on the "automobile craze". The article also talks about gambling, Alexander Cartwright, and makes more than one mention of rounders, Civil War era base-ball and it's roots.
Condition: I would say all in all this is in very nice shape. Other than the obvious folds, there a few wrinkles, mostly around the borders. No stains...a couple small smudges but none that detract from the eye appeal. The horizontal fold is minor and could mostly be pressed out. The vertical fold has some separation in parts....I'd say its about 70% intact. The good news about the vertical fold is that there's very little, if any, chipping/paper loss. If you chose to mount and frame this (which would look incredible) the framer should have no problem in minimizing the visual distraction of the fold.
This will ship flat, for free, folded into quarters. Bidding ends Wed 2/26 at 7pm PST. Starting at $25, which I know is high for a MB, but hey, I'd rather keep it for less. Whole dollar increments, please. Let me know if you have any questions. Paypal No Fees Only. Thanks.
