Interesting that the ebay example has the white borders and no gold fringe. I definitely like Greg's better.
As for affiliation to the Detroit Tigers... I'm not sure either. But both the Reds and Tigers were known to produce these rectanular vertical silk banners between 1940 - 1970. I know of 2 others from Detroit and 3 from Cincinnati (all of which are related to the Major League franchises). The 1951 dating (as written on the ebay example) would make sense for this one... In terms of structure, materials and style, it is very much like the Carstairs Banners that feature Connie Mack's Greatest Team (1951) and Baseball's Hall of Fame (1952). Hunt's recently had one of these as well.... unfortunately, I can't post a link because they don't keep any history of their I/P Auctions (their history is only saved for Live Auctions). Greg - Is this the Banner recently in Hunt's? Last edited by perezfan; 04-27-2013 at 09:41 AM. |
