Here is a letter written by J. Paris Childress who was Secretary of the Central Committee of the Independent Democratic Clubs. I have found where Childress was a Judge in New Orleans - lists him as (Judge First City Court). What does that mean?
Letter Reads: New Orleans, La. Oct. 15th 1868 Col. Macon, Sir, I am directed by the Central Committee of the Independent Democratic Clubs to cordially invite you to attend and act as one of the Vice Presidents at the Grand ??? Meeting to be held at Congo Square on Saturday Oct. 17 1868. Respectfully J. Paris Childress Secretary |
