Bushing's latest debacle

How, I wonder, does one authenticate a Troy Aikman game-used helmet other than to take the word of someone who says he got it from someone who used to work in the Cowboy locker room who got it from Troy? Who needs an expert for that? Or does it have some distinctive numbers, or markings, or whatever?
