Those 1959 Wheaties are nice!

My Jackie Parker question isn't how he would have done in the NFL but how much better he could have been and how many more years he could have played at his best had he taken care of himself and not abused his body. In a lot of ways he was similar to his contemporary Mickey Mantle. Parker was a heavy drinker from the very start of his pro career but it didn't appear to affect his performance as he was always ready to practice and play. Moreover he was a smoker.

As a result he looked many years older than his actual age by the 1960's. He was only 55 when he had to step down due to health problems from being the Edmonton Eskimos' head coach during the 1987 season which was a year in which the Eskimos ended up winning the Grey Cup.
