I think it's two simple things for me. (I do buy football, but I won't pay much and I usually only collect my team, Detroit)
a. Short careers keep player collecting to a minimum. b. Absolute value crash and disinterest the moment a player retires because of short careers. Any investment of consequence is completely foolhardy.
