Based on some research I've been doing, it's definitely the scarce backs. Obviously a HOF'er with a scarce back is the best of both worlds.
It does seem that the easily recognizable HOF'ers, such as Cobb, Mathewson, Chance, keep pace with the scarce backs moreso than the lesser known HOF'ers such as Joe Kelley or Elmer Flick. The "HOF" designation, while 100% accurate, is a bit to broad of a stroke imo, as I see probably three tiers of HOF'ers.
