Thanks, Phil. After an email from a forum member, I googled 'Bert Padell', who I had never heard of, and found where his autographed letter collection was auctioned back in 2007 - lots of good biographical information.

If Sam Crawford had had a better sense of the future, instead of wishing Bert luck as a baseball player, he would have said he hoped he would have success representing rappers. Sam just wasn't in touch back in '47.
